TAYLOR, Samuel 1800 US Census Readfield 1-1-1-1-1

Samuel Taylor III was born in Chatham, MA in 1750 and married Eunice Ryder there in 1773. Their eight children were born there between 1775 and 1797. In 1797 Samuel Taylor gave his address as Readfield when he bought land there. The property was located partly in Readfield and partly in Mt. Vernon on the eastern shore of Torsey Pond in vicinity of Chase and upper Church Roads. He died in 1815 and is buried in Readfield Corner Cemetery. The same year one of their sons, Samuel IV, married Amina Couch from Mt. Vernon and the following year Eunice signed the homestead over to her son Samuel. Readfield records indicate that eight of  Samuel IV and Amina's children were born in Readfield but the US Census indicated their home was located in Mt. Vernon. Samuel and Amina sold the family homestead to one Elijah Hussey in 1834 and moved to Vienna. His mother Eunice followed them  there where she died in 1843 and is buried in Beans Corner Cemetery.  Samuel IV, the son, was one of the founders of the Readfield Union Meeting House in 1827.
