LADD, Simeon, Sr. 1800 US Census Winthrop 1-2-1-1-1-1

The first generation of the Ladd family was Simeon Ladd, Sr. who actually lived in the "southern Parish" - or the section of Winthrop that remained Winthrop. His son, Simeon Jr., moved to Readfield about 1804 and I will make a second entry titled Simeon Ladd, Jr.

In 1774 he married Lizzie (Betsey) Haines[ii] in Deerfield, NH[iii] She b. 20 Feb. 1754 Nottingham, NH the daughter of Samuel and Sarah (Widden)[iv] Haines. In 1779 Simeon was a resident of Exeter, NH when the town fathers put forth resolves to decrease the cost of life's necessities[v]. Simeon Ladd was chosen as one of three committee members to present the resolves to citizens for their signatures[vi]. In 1790 Simeon Ladd was living in Nottingham, NH[vii] but by 1800 he is listed as a resident of Winthrop, ME[viii]. Ladd settled in the southwestern part of Winthrop on the south side of the road that led from Winthrop Village to Harvey's Corner, on the road to North Monmouth[ix]. When Simeon moved to Winthrop three of his children came with him – Simeon Jr., Paul and Mary. Daughter Mehitable and her family came about the same time. According to some sources Paul was born in Winthrop in 1793. Simeon and Lizzie Ladd both died in 1823 in Winthrop.
